The Intermodal-Drayage team looks quite a bit different than it did just a few short years ago. As a department, we have seen our driver count double and our office team grows. For instance, we have gone from operating in two states, Wisconsin and Illinois, to a total of 15 states. These additional 13 states are Minnesota, Missouri, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, and Delaware this year alone. What’s the main cause of this growth? PEOPLE.
The most important key to growth and success comes down to our professional drivers. Intermodal began running primarily between Chicago, IL, and Green Bay, WI. This was operated for quite some time exclusively by Owner Operators. We are fortunate to have a strong group of Owner Operators. Most of them have worked with us for 5 years or more. These operators know the bulk of our customers in and out. These Owner Operators truly run their own business and are a pleasure to work with.
Furthermore, looking for a new opportunity is something we always are doing here at Paper Transport. Our internal logistics group was looking for carrier capacity for some of their freight in markets we did not operate. This is how Intermodal-Drayage got a start in some areas. From there, we have been able to build relationships with new customers to acquire a good freight mix.
In conclusion, as the Intermodal-Drayage side continues to grow in the office we have had the pleasure of welcoming new faces in new roles. Paper Transport provides a very empowering culture. We have developed a professional team that has taken a sense of ownership in what they do each day. Our team of Driver Managers, Planners, and Local Operations Managers take great pride in making sure we set our drivers up for success.
